tent for pickup

My husband welded a tent frame together that is seated in the holes along
the top of the pickup bed like a lumber rack. He made cot frames of the
same metal. I bought some waterproof material but have not yet sewn it
together. The idea is to drive to the ride with just the metal framework on
the truck, and throwing the tent over the top after getting to the ride. It
should make a very comfortable place to sleep in during the summer months.
I would not have enjoyed it last April at Derby Ditch when I tried to spend
the night in my horse trailer and ended sleeping in the cab of the truck. I
could not brush my teeth in the morning because the brush was frozen solid
in a cup of water I had left in the trailer!

I used to have a cabover camper but found it to be hard to back with a 3
horse slant load behind it, and trying to get over the Sierras was next to
impossible with all the weight. For all the ridecampers from chillier parts
of the country, I anticipate some razzing about being a bit of a wimp, but
that's why I live in California.
