Cloud stirrups

Hi all,

Need some info.  I have a pair of cloud stirrups and
ride in 1" biothane leathers. I heard I can cut the stirrup
 bar down to size to fit the leathers a little better. Is 
this true? It looks fairly easy to do, any tricks?
