Noticed this also with hikers - particularly if they have dogs &/or children.
They think they are helping you out & maybe saving the kids & dogs when in
fact they are making it impossible for the horse to see them clearly.

I also talk & usually stop to chat & let the kids pet the horse etc.  I find
the mountain bikers are mostly glad to stop & take a break by talking to you &
many are wanting to know how they can better approach horses.
