The first base camp, Valley Wells near Trona (a company mining town) is the
company's recreation facility.  My husband seems to recall a grocery store at
Trona, about 5 miles from Valley Wells.  At the second camp, Ballarat, only a
ghost town with a few buildings and one person living there (the last time I
recall). No grocery store at Panamint Springs, but there is a restaurant and a
few coin-op snack machines.
