Re: LD non-member fees.

O.k. , here's my 2 cents. I am one of the handful of 100 milers who has never
joined AERC. Ridden the Tevis 4 times, the Virginia City, and the Outlaw Ride
but never bothered to join. Why? $75 seems kind of steep when I'm not
interested in accumulating mileage, never going to top ten (14th once),
definitely a middle of the pack kind of rider, and my heart is with NATRC
where I can be truly competitive. Does the $10 non-member fee bother me? Not
one bit. Money well spent in my opinion. Of course, I've never done LD, went
right into the big stuff (didn't know any better, I guess). I guess if we're
going to grouse about money, why does AERC charge $75 when NATRC only charges
$40? What is the added value. No insult intended, I just don't get it. I
don't mind paying as I go for a ride (which is why the $10 fee doesn't bug
me). If you're not going for mileage/awards, I can't see spending another $75
(on top of NATRC dues, IAHA and local club dues), so I just pay as I go with
AERC. Am I missing something though? Educate me, I'm open!

Sylvia
