Indeed, the overall subject of the hour-long show, entitled "The Ultimate Guide:
The Horse," is about the pre-history origins of the horse, the diversity of
breeds and their special uses. The Tevis footage from the 1997 Ride is used
mainly to illustrate the ability of (usually) hot blood horses to cover long
distances quickly.

About half of the Tevis-related footage is of Cougar Rock from a helicopter; the
rest at the Robinson Flat vet check, including the arrival there of Marcia
Smith, the '97 Tevis winner, riding her arab gelding, On A High.

If you didn't get a chance to view/tape it yourself, this video is an excellent
introduction to the full range of equines, from arabs to zebras (and everything
in between), about hoof evolution, ancient migrations, temperament, vision
blindspots, digestive adaptions, and so forth. It's a good one to add to your
library of horsey videos.

I have to disagree with Leigh: It has, in its way, a lot to do with endurance.
More at least than what often passes for "endurance" on this list. ;-)

Video is available from Discovery Channel Viewer Relations at 1-888-404-5969 for
$19.95 + tax + S&H.

/richard, tevis webguy ...who gives this show "two hooves up"
