Re: BC scores

Actually I got out my sheet and it was 482.5

Deducting so many points/MINUTE means that only the

I looked at the sheet. The final scores were: (correct stats, not just
from the memory of a zombie)

 Vet score: 482.5
Time score -30 (I checked they counted it as "0")
          Weight score: 70.5

BC's ride time was 11:10
My ride time: 15:00 That's 3 hrs. 50 min. difference.

BC's weight: 235
Mine 176

If I was correct that I was 2nd by 20 pts. That would mean that BC's
total vet score was 270? I think that's right, since my total BC score
was 553 (but looks like it says 550)...then maybe hers was 570. Subtract
200 pts. for fastest time and 100 pts. for weight, makes 270.

I don't know anything about this stuff. This is just my 4th attempt at a
100. I think the first place horse was over 3hrs. ahead of 2nd place.
Carrying a heavyweight, the horse did a heck of a job. However, if I had
a 3 hr lead and a horse that was looking like a 270 vet score...doesn't
seem like a time I'd speed up.

Don't want to sound like I'm criticizing the way BC looked. I wasn't
there when the winner was judged. Just talking hypothetical situations
going by scores here. Sure I'd have loved to have had a BC, but high vet
score was all that I thought I had a shot at and was more than happy to
get that, whether it was recognized or not.

I've seen where they have refused to award BC at some rides.
I have always thought though that if the top 10 horses at Tevis went too
fast and didn't deserve BC, what about number 11...12...13? Somebody
obviously judged it just right back there and went as fast as possible
without over riding...they should be recognized in my opinion.

Look at your sheet again--if the points
>deducted
>per minute from fastest rider were, say, 1/2 of what the form has,
>what
>would have happened?

I'd have won my first BC by 94 pts...and if pigs had wings they could fly
too. :-)

With the ride I rode...I'm surprised to be 2nd in BC scoring. Probably
higher than I deserve, but I'm sure there's times we all wish the numbers
said something else at the end of the sheet...there were three more good
horses 30 or 45 min. ahead of me...a difference in time scoring might
have given it to one of them.
