sore backs

How long does it usually take for a horse's back to heal? I think it
is a deep muscle injury, compounded over the summer by using the wrong
saddle. Last ride of the season brought it to a head..he was only
ouchy before but then, he was sore. Winter coat brought in some white
hairs, man do I feel awful. Tossed that saddle, gave him 3 weeks off,
not sore. Took a short ride, sore again. Not as bad as before, but
sore. Back washes, lunging, no riding 3 more weeks. Back is fine two
weeks in a row (no riding, just pressing with my hand). Went for a
short ride yesterday, little trotting, got down going downhill. He is
sore again! Ugh! Not terrible sore, but still sore. I try posting by
distributing my weight, I try not to land on his back. Back wasn't
sore til those muscles cooled down, but sore it was.

If it is a muscle brusing would a chiro adjustment help? Do they go
hand in hand? I can't spend close to $100. on an adjustment I don't
know would be the solution. Should I just not ride him for a couple
months, period?

thanks!

just let me graze!")
