Karen~

In a message dated 97-12-15 23:08:30 EST, you write:

<< I do wonder why no hay is allowed at the P&R stops. That's a
long time to go without food. I let my horse eat the few bits of grass
on the trail but that doesn't seem enough. She didn't have any
distress, fortunately. But what is the point of not allowing hay or
feed? >>

You must be refering the the Wekiva 35. I was there too. Didn't anybody tell
you that only crazy people ride 35 miles in the rain? (Yes, Mom, I've finally
found a place where I fit in) <g>

I think that you misunderstood the rule about feed at P&R stops. I believe
the rule is that you can not have feed BROUGHT TO YOU and your horse while on
the trail. If you want to have your horse eat hay at a P&R you must CARRY IT
WITH YOU on a CTR.

I always carry feed for my horse (Carrots, pellets, Gatorade & electrolytes).
I carry a folding water bucket and put the Gatorade & electrolytes in that
with some water. He usually is very eager to drink that. If he looses
interest in finishing that mixture, I throw in some pellets and he drinks some
more. Works for me & my horse seems to enjoy it :-)

I wish I knew you were going to be at that ride and I would have looked you
up. I was number 34 on a chestnut gelding (three white socks & a blaze,
placed 6th in Light weight). How would you describe yourself & your horse?
The next ride I go to I am going to suggest that ride management make an
announcement to have all ridecampers identify themselves, so we can meet face
to face.

Hope to meet you at another ride.
