Best and worst horse gear

Best-a small set of (I think they are called double-action) bolt cutters
which fit easily in almost any pommel, cantle or other saddle bag and have
darned near been life savers with wire, nails protruding inward from shoes,
tins that contained lunch when there was no can opener...

Worst-either heavy weight cotton lead ropes with bulldog clips: weigh a ton
when wet, stay filthy forever, break fairly readily, and entail use of two
hands to open

or that darned neoprene girth that tears out winter coat and makes horses
most unhappy about being girthed up long after the girth gall is gone.
