Trish,

I happen to agree with you that the decision to vaccinate is largely a
personal one (I say largely because with a social animal like a dog or a
cat which do contract rabies readily I do believe people need to vaccinate
for rabies unless the animal is isolated from other people and animals
-ie a cat kept always in the house.) Not vaccinating a dog which was free
to roam around (even just in a yard) coming into probable contact with both
skunks and kids would IMHO be highly irresponsible.

But since you say you do things holistically (sp?) I wonder if a lot of the
other holistic things do not play a larger role in your daughter's and horse's
health than avoiding vaccines. For instance I'm sure you must also avoid
using anti-biotics except in extreme situations (and the overuse of anti-
biotics definitely causes problems - even mainstream media such as newpapers-
have run articles about this.) Plus using more whole foods (and feed)
would introduce more "microbes" than processed foods and feeds and keep the
immune system active in response, etc, etc.

>I think I'll keep doing things the holistic way. Seems to work spectaculary
>well for me.

Probably does but avoiding vaccines is surely just a small part of this?
People should be cautious about following just one element of any "system".
Before anyone out there decides that what is working for Trish will work
for you - contact her for references and information &/or do some independent
study of the whole thing before you change ONLY your vaccination philosophy.
(note DO NOT contact me - I am NOT a holistic expert - in fact I tend to eat
way too much junk food - after getting flu a few years ago I get that shot
every year, my horses all get 4-way vaccines, plus "rhino" etc, etc.)
