Ramey - This is a great thing - congratulations on
putting it together! - but is it necessary
to charge for it? I think many would be more inclined
to attend if it didn't cost $50. Since you mentioned
proceeds going to a worthy AERC cause, I assume
that the speakers are donating their time?

Maybe people would like the option of attending
just one or two sessions.

Plus I would suggest a pre-registration to make sure
there are enough attendees to make it worth while for
the speakers.

Hi everyone. Based on your input, we have put together an educational
program for the Thursday before the AERC Conference. There was a split
of opinion on basic vs. advance topics. So we called around and was
able to find speakers to do both! So here's the tenative agenda:

Care and Feeding of the Endurance Horse-
Presented with the help of a generous grant from
Kentucky Equine Research, Inc.

When: January 22, 1998;
The Thursday before the AERC Conference Begins

Where: Lexington, Kentucky

What: This will be a day devoted to learning. After introductory
comments, students will be able to choose either basic or advanced
topics. Basic presentations will address the fundamentals of endurance
feeding, training and riding. Advanced topics will focus on the
development of a competitive training and racing program.

Cost: $ 50.00 includes lecture materials and lunch. Any profits
will be donated to a worthy AERC cause.

Tentative Topics:

TRACK I - Basic
Subject/Speaker:
Fundamentals of Endurance Mr. Ramey Peticolas-Stroud
Rider/Veterinarian Teamwork Dr. Lani Newcomb
Evaluating the Endurance Horse Dr. Steven Duren
Feeding the Endurance Horse Dr. Kathleen Crandell

TRACK II - Advanced
Subject/Speaker:
Exercise Physiology Research Dr. Jeannie Waldron
What's New in Endurance Nutrition Dr. Joe Pagan
Advanced Endurance Topics Dr. Nancy Loving
Endurance Race Strategy Ms. Valerie Kanavy

That's it so far. A post-seminar bus tour of local research facilities
(i.e. Gluck) is also being considered. We also wanted to have our own
Susan Evans on the program but she deferred to Dr. Pagan. Hopefully we
will be able to repeat this program on the West coast and capture her
talents then.

So what do you think? How could we improve the seminar? It's not too
late to make a few topic changes.
