Regarding fit, I read with interest the answers you received, and they are
all good. In the area of fit I regard myself as somewhat of an expert, as I
fit horses all the time, the last 9 years, at this count well over 350
horses. Try a bare-tree fitting, without a pad, using baby powder for an
imprint. A little messy, but will make your horse smell good!
Layer it over the saddle area, as smooth as possible,. Carefully place the
saddle onto the horse, and cinch up, press down over the top, evenly to get a
good imprint. Carefully remove the saddle, straight up, not dragging it off (
I suggest a helper). If there are bare places on the horse, and more on the
saddle, this will show you where the pressure is on the horse from the
saddle. An even sweat pattern takes more time on a well-conditioned horse.
The drier areas could be from pressure on the sweat glands, reducing their
ability to sweat, leaving the area dry. Take a good look at your saddle pad.
Fitting is an art form, not a science. There are many variables.
