While I am not aware of any specific irregularities at the ROC vs. AERC
rules and standards, I would like to hypothetically responds to the above.

Sounds like Roger is still on his "ROC high"! It is a great time. I had a
ball last year, but was unable to make it this year. And Roger is correct
- you do earn your buckle.

Yes it is Susan's ride and she can do anything she wants. She can even set
the cut off for a 100 miles to five hours if she wants. But, when she
sanctions the ride with the AERC she is telling the riders she is adhering
to a set of rules and standards. When the riders enter (for a pretty
heafty fee) they are assuming the ride will be run under those rules and
standards they have come to know.

Dane's article several EN's issues ago on the AERC was quite to this point.
I have done rides in VA, TN, GA, KY, Miss, AL, FL, NC, SC, Utah, CO and
Texas. Guess what - the rules and procedures were all the same. This is
becuase of the AERC. Now if someone doesn't want to follow these rules and
procedures then they can run the ride without AERC sanctioning. If they do
sanction the ride with the AERC, they should live up to the implied
commentment they have made to the riders on a standard set of rules and
procedures to be used for the ride.

The is true no matter if it is ROC or the "Bo Didley Memorial Classic".

Off my soap box for a while
