Vicki,
I apologize if my answer sounded patronizing. I am trying to kill two =
birds with one stone. I was trying to reply to you and at the same time =
get as much information out there on ridecamp as possible for all =
riders. My sincere apologies; I had no intention of insinuating =
anything or implying that you were not responsible. Please forgive any =
inaccurate wording.

As to the number, I still don't know the answer to the question, I =
would suggest you call the AERC office at 916-823-2260

You will all be interested to know that I spoke with MaryAnne Bobrow of =
the AERC office and she intends to bring to the board the concept of =
prorated memberships. This may be in effect some time next year. =
=20

Thanks to you all for your input.

Lynn,

The point is that I have only ridden in one ride & since I didn't want =
to
pay a year's dues when the year was half over, I am NOT an AERC member
currently (I plan to enter in December). What I'm trying to determine =
is:
was my horse assigned a number at or after the ride? I didn't have one
prior to the ride & since I only have 25 miles to my credit, it doesn't
matter to me whether I get a new number or not. But for AERC =
bookkeeping,
if my horse already has a number doesn't it make sense to use that one. =

I am responsible enough to provide a number to the ride secretary if I =
have
one & know it. The insinuation that an inexperienced LD rider should =
know
to get a number for their horse prior to their very first ride is
insulting. If this is the way that AERC members are treated, I can
understand why there is disgruntlement on RideCamp. Maybe I should =
rethink
becoming a member at all & just join SERA -- at least Samm, Truman, & =
Tina
have been helpful & civil.

the
rub. It is to each rider's benefit to put his/her number and his/her
horse's number at each ride, because this is how points/records get
confused at the office. Each horse should only have one number, but if =
no
one at the office knows he has one, he may be assigned another. Then =
the
rider gets all upset because the records are wrong, he/she cannot find =
that
credit was given to the horse, etc. With progress come computers; with
computers come required entries, ie member/horse numbers.
