leg injury recovery

At the end of July my summer riding vacation in the Sierra ended with my
mare getting stuck up to her belly in a meadow bog. After several
minutes of just laying there (with me in a deepening panic) she made a
heroic effort and pulled herself out. In the process she apparently put
some real strain on her front legs, with swelling and a bump at the
lower end of the inside right splint, and another at the top of the
inside left splint. The right bump and swelling have disappeared. She
still has a bump on the left, but the area is no longer sore to
palpatation. The vet says start working her again. After nearly two
months of being restricted to her corral she is back out in her paddock
(running, bucking and being a general idiot) and a short ride last
weekend with no lameness.

So much for background. My question - how would you bring her back
after a two month layoff? What is the best routine for strengthening
legs and tendons after injury?

Thanks for any insights,
Bob Wilson and Blue (who is delighted to be out of her corral)
