I will wholeheartedly second this, at least for my first (current) gelding
compared to the four mares that I have owned & ridden over the past 23
years. Our current mare (and, as I remember it, all of the previous ones) is
one of those that you can just let guide herself home, however the gelding
*always* will choose the trail that goes in the right direction (not the
correct direction, the RIGHT direction)! No biggie, just his nature, it
seems. I would say that it is my balance and cues, but for the fact that it
has never happened with any of the mares and that he does it no matter who
rides him. Oh well...
