I wish I'd known several of these ideas for a
chronic tying up horse, some years back. I had
a little Arab mare I'd raised from birth who tied up
every time she was ridden more than a couple
miles. The strange thing was I could pony her
for miles at a trot with no problem, but if I rode
her for 2 or 3 miles, she tied up. She was very
nervous when alone and possibly tenseness
started the tying up. It was definitely tying up,
her gait would change and I'd have to get off
and baby her home, then her hindquarters would
be locked in place with the muscles over the
croup painfully swollen. As I couldn't ride her
and was moving to another state, I had a friend
take her to auction for me. I still have her spittin'
image daughter who I haven't had time to start
yet so don't know if she has the same problem.
