I've heard several variations. The one used in the movie "True Grit"
was, AIR,

One white foot ... buy him.
Two white feet ... try him.
Three white feet ... be on the sly.
Four white feet ... pass him by.

But then the speaker (talking to her new horse with four white feet)
said "But I have never held with that."
