Hi, I'm back and need advice

Hi,
I reconize a few of the name from the last time I was on this list
but it has been some time. Remember I was the one that said
that Arabians should be trained to respect the gaits and stay
put in the gait that they are told to stay in. It has worked well
with the Arabians that I have worked with. It really calms them
down. They seem to like to have someone in charge.

But I also learn from the somewhat heated discussion that followed
that when you spend alot of time with a horse you start working
as a team and you both learn to make decisions about what is
best for the team. It doesn't hurt to listen to your horse in competition
if he choose a different gait then you do. He is probably trying to
tell you something. I would like to thank everyone for the imput
that I received. I learned alot.

Well, I have done alot of riding this past year and I am going
to go to my first limited distance ride in two weeks. My problem
is our saddles. Every saddle that I have is a western saddle,
you know the big heavy roping saddles. Well in the past they
have worked fine, in fact they are very comfortable to ride in,
but since I have been putting alot more miles on my horse these
last 6 months, I have noticed that when I ride more then 15 miles
in a day that my horse gets sore in the back over his loin. I have
since learned that a western saddle put you futher back on the
horse and since I have been going up and down alot of hills
I am riding father on his back. I have been looking all summer
around here and all I can find is more western saddles. I
did go and look at two barrel racing saddles that are almost
brand new and the lady only wants $350 apiece for them.
One has a 16" seat and the other has a 15" seat. Are they
any good for endurance? They would put me father up on
my horse and get me off of his loins, but the lady said the
reason they did not use them very much was because they
would not stay tight on the horses. But she is a big lady and
she has Quarter horses. Any ideas?

TIA
