Just a couple of suggestion. In the past, when you're knee didn't hurt
while riding were you using a Sport Saddle on a round barreled
Arabian? I now have a Sport Saddle and a wide, round beastie and my
knees also hurt with this combination. Why? Just analyze the
differences between the SS and an all-purpose type of english saddle.
The SS is like having a means of hanging stirrups on a bareback horse.
It gives you great feel of the horse, buuuuuuuttttt...... it also
forces you to try to fit down and around whatever shape your horse's
body has. If you ride a wide load with a flat back like my horse it
can make your hips ache and and your knees sore as your legs try to
assume a bowlegged sort of shape. The more you are up out of the
saddle the easier it is on your hips. I also ride a friends horse who
is narrower in the body with flatter sides and I find myself much more
comfortable on him.

An regular english type saddle raises your seat up above the horses
back by 2-3 inches allowing your legs to drop downward differently
(easier on the hips) and the flaps usually have nice close contact
pockets for your knees to fit into. Because your seat is higher, your
knees are also higher up the horses sides and generally the bowlegged
feel is much less. I've been riding my horse bareback some and the
similarity to the SS is strong except I don't do much posting!

So anyhow, the cause of your pain could be your saddle and horse
combination, not you. Try riding in a comfortable, well fitted
all-purpose or dressage saddle for a while and see what you find. I am
using an older model dressage saddle with slightly forward flaps on
the round one right now and find myself very comfortable.

I was thinking maybe my stirrups were to short or to long. But I change
them and it seems the same. I did notice that if I ware gaiters it is worse
and happens much faster. I even had a new pair of knee-high socks and it
was worse. I rolled them down and it was better. I ride in a sport saddle
and love it. But could that be where my problem is.

I did notice that the horse I am having trouble with on getting the farrier
to do him right is really giving me knee problems. Possibly the way he is
travailing is giving me problems? (Interesting )..........
