Twin Oaks ride

I usually don't post about rides but this one was very nice so I thought I would.
(Especially after last years controversy) The first loop is challenging with a very long
climb to start the day. Beautiful views and fresh cold spring water with a climb up into
the pines make it one not to miss if you have a conditioned horse. Then its along the
Pacific Crest trail and fire roads back to camp. The 2nd loop after lunch is easier but
scenic with some great trotting and cantering areas the last 10 miles if you have a
horse left. The dinner was the best I have ever had, a match for the Tar Springs ribs
dinner. Tri Tip, chicken, salad, rice, beans, bread, corn on the cob, desert and a
drink. The weather was nice, not hot or humid like we were worried.
The turnout was 42 in the 50 miler with 30 finishing and 21 in the 30 miler with 15
finishing. The low finish rate in the 30 I think is indicative of the difficulty of the
first loop. I would call the ride a moderate to difficult 50 but a difficult 30 as most
LD rides go. Anyway I would recommend it next year to anyone who likes to ride, really
ride. (Where did I hear that before?)
I didn't mention it but trail marking was excellent, plenty of water everywhere, good
vets, etc etc.
