You should definitely trim the boots down in the back. Trim them down to
where they are even/flush with the heel strap. Do this whether or not the
horse is barefoot.

If she is sore on it, then give her however long it takes to get over it.
Better to be careful and patient than to try to keep working her and make it
worse.
