I agree with you. No flames here :-)

One other point just to throw into the pot just for the sake of
"something to think about"---and I'm not taking a stand, just pointing
something out. The Premarin mares are kept their entire lives, bred
repeatedly, their young is taken away from them relatively soon to be
utilized elsewhere, and a by-product resulting from that pregnancy is
collected for the good of mankind, not for the horse's. Although for
the sake of argument, let's assume the horses are well-maintained
health-wise, they are certainly a far cry from what we think of as a
doted-on pasture pet, right? It can also be assumed that if the mare is
no longer able to become pregnant, and thereby produce the by-product
we're interested in, she will one way or another be disposed of. I
doubt the pharmaceutical company maintains a retirement farm out of
gratitude to the mares, but I don't know. If the decision is dictated
solely by economics, I would assume they would go to slaughter.

How is this any different from the millions of dairy cows in this
country? (And don't anyone try telling me how wonderfully dairy cows
are treated---my BS was in Animal Science, so I been there, done that).

Just food for thought, but no flames. Just thought I would point out
that human perception of what constitues abuse sometimes changes based
on species, eh?
