Separation Anxiety

When my two horses go to a ride separately (without the other one)...they
are both just fine. Don't get attached to other horses, etc. Everything is
so easy.

However, when they go to a ride together they are practically inseparable.
This can make even the simple things difficult - vetting, tacking up,
warming one up without the other one, etc.

They are perfectly fine at home or in small groups to be separated without
acting like morons. This only seems to occur at actual endurance rides.
Most of the rides I go to are fairly large in size - 100 horses or more.
They both get with the game plan once we start moving out, but it's all the
other times that they can be so extremely difficult. Wouldn't you know it's
the older horse that seems to be the most attached.

We do manage to muddle thru...just keeping each horse in site of one another
at vet checks, stuff like that. It comes in handy when one isn't eating..if
the other one does eat then that helps to 'inspire' the other one
(competition for the food).

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to help draw
their attention off of one another? I can't be the only one with this
barn-buddy syndrome thing, can I?

Happy Trails,
