Stone Bruises

My horse was diagnosed with stone bruises after a 75-mile ride on August 2.
I soaked his feet in epsom salt and betadine for 5 days per the vet's
suggestion. He gradually got better each day. Now (August 12) he seems
perfectly sound. How much longer should I lay him off? And when I start
riding him, do I need any special kind of hoof protection (pads, easy
boots)?

(Sorry to be so ignorant. My other horses' feet are tougher. I have never
had a severe stone bruise like this in almost 9000 miles of endurance
riding). There's always something new to learn in this sport!)
