Hi Susan,

I would put a leather thong on the back side of the bit by tying it into
the ring where the rien attaches on one side, go under ( or thru a ring on
) the curb and back down to the other rein ring. If you look at an english
curb bit, they all used to be rigged this way to stop the horse from
flipping the bit upside down. It is called a lip strap. It should solve
your problem. Happy riding....
