tummy troubles

Several riders in Vermont had some serious tummy troubles while
riding. Do any of you have any solutions for this? Apparently they
could eat at holds, but as soon as they started riding, ick. It was
a cool day and luckily dehydration did not get to the riders, but one
had to eventually pull. We all got into quite a discussion about
what one should eat before and during a ride. I was introduced to a
book called "Beyond the Zone" which really takes a different approach
from the pasta loading idea. Since we were amung 200+ ultra marathon
runners, I took a look at what they ate, most interesting. Pasta
load the night before, rinsed down with beer and ice cream. Fruit,
power bars and gaterade all day, with some Cytomax, with some ice
cream, pies and pasta here and there. I will say that watermelon at
83 miles tastes great!
