Yes the power walk - I love it. I think riding a walking horse for a
couple thousand miles has taught me a lot about how to train my arab,
Jordy. Misty started out with a good walk and after a year of training she
had a awsome walk. She would truck out at about 6 mph, One of her ridding
buddies, Rush Creek Quick, had to jog to keep up.

Her overstride at the wake was aobut 9 to 12 inches!. When she walked up
hill she would put her head down, round her back and drive. In fact it was
sometimes difficult to tail behind her because of the speed. This type of
walking up hill does wonders for the back and hind quarters. Kathy worked
with Jordy last year when we were in CO and Utah to get him to push up the
hills. He has a pretty good butt on him so he caught on fast. This summer
I'll continue to work him on the uphill - since we are headed back out
west.

So by all means I would reccomend developing the walk. Done correctly it
strengthens and stretches the muscles of the back and hind quarters and I
think a good fast walk is a real asset for an endurance horse.

Signing off so we can start the long drive to Longmont, CO
