Hi Andrea,
I think it is important if at all possible to be there when your horse is
being shod. The
farrier doesn't ride your horse and can only do what he thinks is best. On
the other hand
having you hold your horse is unusual. If your farrier makes you feel
uncomfortable to
ask questions, get a new farrier. Also I would advise reading books about
shoeing.
You can pick up alot of great info.. Just remember every horse is different.
