     Yes I've tried a crupper. IMO a crupper is fine for preventing a 
     sudden radical slide of saddle up the neck when going down a steep 
     hill but doesn't work for a saddle that shifts when the horse is just 
     trotting along the flat. If tightened enough to keep the saddle back 
     my horse is tugged (under the tail) with each stride and gets pretty 
     pissy.  YEE-Ha!

Have you tried a "crouper"?...the thingie that goes around and under the 
tail?  I believe most center rigged saddles need to use one.  ct
