As a rider, I would definitely not take a dog to a competition. But I do
enjoy having him along on conditioning rides. My trails are on a cattle
lease, a little more excrement doesn't hurt anything here, only a couple of
us ride the trails and certainly no one walks them.
I attach a "bear bell" to my dog's collar. The horses know his
location at all times and do not spook. I forgot it today!! (But at least I
didn't fall off).
