I talked to Lori Stewart, Miki Cohen at AERC, Emmett Ross, Maggy Price,
Grace Ramsey and Valarie Kanavy about this event. This is what I
learned:
Something is being planned. FEI wants to sanction it. Courtney Hart is
organizing it. Planned for the end of November.
"We have to wait." That is what Lori said. We can't print (or know)
anything until AHSA tells us. FEI only communicates with AHSA and
eventually we will find out. I don't find this acceptable as a member
of AERC. Now I don't remember getting into this sport or doing my first
events by waiting for the phone to ring. I tried to impress upon her and
Maggy Price that we need to *make things happen* not to wait for them to
happen. Maggy Price said that she is out of the loop and that Jerry
Gillespie is now the AHSA contact. Well it didn't seem that Miki Cohen
knew that, as she said to talk to Maggy but that she (Miki) had heard
about the event. Why don't we KNOW?
Valarie said that an event in Qatar is being held sometime in the end of
November and that a US team would have to qualify at some events to be
determined. One may be the Ireland pre-ride. Lori said that FEI was
going to require two FEI rides to qualify, but that we only have one
ride, the Pan American in the States so (?). Emmett said that he wasn't
saying. He hinted that it was not a sure thing (the event), but that
Courtney Hart was the organizer for the sheik that was building it. Ask
Courtney was his comment. Grace mentioned that Jan had been invited to
participate in some way (rider, helper, trainer ?) and was a little
knowledgeable about the prospect but that she (Jan) was nursing three
cracked ribs from a new horse and didn't want to talk.
Now why doesn't Lori ask Courtney or isn't Courtney part of AERC?
How do you prepare for a world championship event in five months? Well I
can tell you that every other European country is preparing. Some select
individuals are preparing because they are in the network. Our
international representatives should make themselves part of the network
and get even preliminary information (planning) to us. "We have to
wait." (for the bureaucrats) has never worked for American business. We
forge ahead and make things happen. Just like getting through a vet
check. Time sensitive issues from AERC should be posted on ridecamp or
the Web page and not just wait for the next issue of AERC News.
Preliminary information, prospective information, any information or
just ideas are better than nothing.
Feed us something.
It seems that our role with AHSA and FEI needs some focus, intensity
and attention. Maybe this is a fire that our president should be more
involved with as a priority.
How do we regain our lost grip on the endurance world? I never knew the
US to be a back seat in world events.
