"A Tribute"

Rocky Ridge Ali, by Rumanaji Ali, died on May 8th. He was the sire of my
husbands endurance gelding KH KHAZ, & the race mare KH ALEXI, my first
endurance prospect, now owned by Berringer House Arabians.

"Rocky" was only 15yrs., a blazing red chestnut, & in perfect health except
for a small cyst at the girth line. His owner for 11 yrs. - my friend Pat,
scheduled his appointment with one of the most highly reccommended Vets in
Washington. Arriving at the farm an early Wed. afternoon, we were told that
the Dr. was running late. About an hour later when he arrived & examined
Rocky, (the cyst was just into the muscle), he asked that we leave him
overnight. A very simple surgery would be preformed the following a.m. with
Pat to pick him up Thur. afternoon.

(After riding Khaz in Pats first 25 mile LD at Rattlesnake Ridge the week
before, she had decided to condition Rocky to participate at our local ride in
Sept.)

I was at work Thur. p.m. when the phone rang - Pat was choking back sobs to
tell me that Rocky had died in surgery. She was told that his heart had
stopped. They performed CPR for over 20 min. with no response.

Pat didn't want him left there, so I called my husband who headed home to
empty out our 2 horse slant, & remove the tack room wall. When we arrived at
the farm, & drove past the barn door, Pat saw him laying in the isle,
uncovered. It tore us up. Getting him home & buried was a nightmare for
everyone.

When my daughter was younger, & rode her mountain bike as the rest of us rode
horses, Rocky would stop, yell, & wait for Jentry to catch up. He was always
a gentleman, & Pats pride & joy, the basis of her breeding program. He loved
his mares, & his human extended family.

I felt the need to leave him an epitath. He was a great horse. The "quite"
of his passing is almost too much to bear.

A short note of condolence from any of you who have gone through this kind of
experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Connie H.
