Someone asked about just throwing a bunch of hay out for the whole day. If
it works and that is what your horses are used to, go for it. But one word
of caution to anyone who might be thinking, great idea; be very careful with
alfalfa! It can cause a horse to bloat fatally. I lost a beautiful 2 year
old filly when she got into the alfalfa hay and did a free choise thing that
she wasn't accustome to. I found her too late, and learned the hard way that
horses are stupid when it comes to the feed trough. Maybe some vet expert
could add a little info on the alfalfa bloat & what acutally happens.
