Truman,

I also have had problems with underun heels and a high suspensory strain
with my horse. When I vetted my guy thru at the FOF Dr Frazier graded my
guy a grade 2 suspensory injury. Needless to say I didn't ride that day.
He spent about 30 minutes with me explaining the need for a good
supporting shoe for both his heels and the suspensory problem and
recommended the egg bar highly for his front feet.

This has been our rookie season and have only been able to do two rides,
Hahira in which he had steel rim shoes on. After our first 25 mile ride
at Hahira I switched him to Polo plates for the weight factor and that I
believe was where I made my mistake. He had all A's at Hahira and we
averaged 6MPH.

At Lake City he vetted in with a grade 1 L front problem, but it wasn't
there at the first vet check. I really didn't think there was still a
problem until Dr Frazier saw us at FOF and found the problem was getting
worse. He recommended the egg bar shoe as a must for him.

Because Sabian has a tendency to forge at times our vet and farrier came
up with a modification to the egg bar to reduce the chances of him
stepping on the back of the bar and pulling it off. The farrier welded a
straight steel bar across the back of the heel. It has helped the heels
tremendously, but our suspensory problem is still around unfortunately.
We went to Million Pines and Sabian vetted in with a less than a grade
1 L front problem now. I chose not to ride as well at MP.

With our experience, I can vouch for the support that a heel bar can
give both for suspensory problems and for the underun heels.

I may never give up the heel bar shoes in the front.:-)
