Although selinium is deficient in many areas, I caution anyone supplementing
to get a proper dose for your horse from your vet. I managed to poison my
horse with selinium about ten years ago. I was feeding exactly what it said
on the label. At first he had hair loss, then became very lethargic, and
finally lame. By this time we did a special blood test for selinium, and
found he was at toxic levels. This all came about because in our area
everyone fed it, especially to heavy muscled horses such as mine. I learned a
lesson the hard way, but it could have been much worse. Becky
