<< Darn. I was going to ask you about whether you'd tried creatine
loading. No effect at all? You'd think it would. Sure works wonders
in humans. May I ask at what dosage and what the loading protocol was?
I'd like to show it to some people around here and see what their
thoughts are. Creatine loading research in humans is moving so damn
fast that you can hardly keep up with it and maybe there's something new
that just popped up that could refine a protocol for horses.

When you tried it, did you attempt any lab analysis of muscle fibers, or
did you just observe overall performance? Would like to know.>>

No muscle analysis. Basically, 4 lbs of pure creatine monohydrate over 4 days
pre race, for Quarterhorses, Standardbreds, and Thoroughbreds--maybe half a
dozen trials each breed. NADA. I'm wondering if I'm hitting a digestion
problem and need creatine phosphate or a carrier of some kind--like safflower
oil or something.

>>One more question for you---what would be your estimate of how fast a TB
reaches anaerobic threshold during a race? I would assume pretty
quickly if he's working hard and it's a relatively short distance (as in
less than an endurance horse). And how about for the SB's? Same or a
bit slower to hit AT?>>

Well, if anaerobic threshold is 4 mmol blood lactate, then within 1/4 mile
for both TB and SB would be my best guess. As far as high production of
lactic acid--immediately. As far as maximal heartrate--again, about a quarter
mile into an all-out effort. That's also where you'll achieve a complete
spleen dump. I'd say SBs are very close to the same as TBs. It's interesting
that Quarterhorses and Polo horses don't seem to product much lactic acid in
an event.

I'm glad we've made up because now I have Beth to deal with She's making me
look like a moron. Ah well, that's the way we learn.
