This is in response to Kat's post when she says "I consider a barrel shaped,
mutton withered horse to be totally disqualified as a purchase for an
endurance prospect...and for god's sake don't breed them...a riding horse
need to have withers".

I think this view needs a little perspective. First of all, no horse is
perfect conformationally or otherwise. Secondly, we are not all driving
toward some lofty competitive goal, some of us are just riding for, get this,
*fun*. Thirdly, this horse of mine (although admittedly a pain to fit for a
saddle): has competed successfully in the lower levels of dressage (including
high point in her first show), can jump, can turn a few barrels, can carry a
rustling trash bag from point A to B, can be ridden bareback with a halter
and lead and is affectionate and kind. We've only just started with distance
riding but I can say that her PR's are quite low, she wants to keep going
longer than I, she is sensible and *fun*.
Before you totally disqualify any horse, its a good idea to get the whole
picture.

Again, I read the archives as my computer can't handle being on the list but
feel free to respond directly through e-mail. GehringK@aol.com
