Up until about 2yrs ago, my horses were stabled in town. (fort worth area)
I had to very creative. There is much more space then you may realize to
ride in town. Many towns have divided roads with nice wide grassy medians
down the middle, and most major hwys have very wide (verge?) areas on each
side. In the DFW area we have the Trinity River with all its attendant
floodplain. It is a very interesting ride, maybe not for the 'faint of
heart'. Another option is the greenspace under power lines. The will be a
wide alley, maintained by the city for you to ride, between rows of houses.
you have to cross roads and learn to jump the cables(18'). If there is
highway construction near, you will have a good gallop track. I used to
lease a pasture on I30, in sight of Fort Worth. I30 has very wide areas
(5ft) that was kept clean and mowed and it had some real tough rolling
hills.

Crazy is one of the nicer things I've been accused of.....

These suggestions are not what I would choose, given an option, but a girls
gotta do what a girls gotta do!

I do have some decent riding now, but lots of hard packed dirt road. I
haven't had problems with it, but try to stay off as much as possible....
Remember it is better than pavement.
