Nylon/Lycra riding tights-- Warning!

I loved my Carousel Nylon/Lycra padded riding tights--thought they were the
perfect answer to comfort on the St. George Ride in January even if they
were a little cool for our winter weather. THEN, I noticed that every time
the velcro on my insulated riding boots touched them, they snagged badly.
NO PROBLEM--just don't let them touch velcro. THEN, I noticed that little
burrs do lots of damage. NO PROBLEM--don't go into things with burrs!
THEN, last week I lightly brushed past a soft green pinion pine bough. I
hardly noticed it brush my leg--I looked down and realized that it had
peeled the tight completely open. I had on a pair of nylon stockings
underneath and the brush was so light it didn't even run the stockings but
the tights gaped completely open. I was totally indecent and had to tie a
coat around me to get back to the ranchhouse. I will still ride in lycra
tights (if I can afford to keep replacing them--they cost $49) but will take
a spare pair as the Ride Manager might have something to say about Lady Godiva.
