cribbing

Hi guys,

Although not strictly endurance-related, could I get some feedback? I'm
looking at a QH mare who I just discovered cribs---not continually
but often enough. She grabs the top bar of the corral, sort of pulls
back and grunts, which I assume is swallowing air. I've never had a
cribber before. She is not going to be used for distance at all, just
as babysitter for novice riders (everything else here is way too hot)
and pet for small child and soon-to-be hubby.

I know cribbing is a vice, but is this a bad enough thing to eliminate
her as a potential purchase? Everything else about her is what I'm
looking for---dead broke, impossible to spook, has no concept of the
typical criminal-minded tricks and shenanigans it seems most horses and
all Arabs are born knowing! But I don't want to buy her, have very
small Munchkin get attached, then have her colic, etc because of this.
Do the cribbing straps really work or are they just a hopeful deterrent?

I'd be pathetically grateful for comments from the teeming masses ;-) .
