My mare too, tends to drag her rear toes. Our shoer is now using a shoe
with
a squared toe. Fronts are rolled. She seems much more confortable, & is
having no further forging problems.

All I can tell you is from my own experience--and it's not with endurance
horses. Squared toes are known as an "aggressive" shoeing technique in
Standardbred racing because they tend to stop the foot more quickly than
normal shoeing technique--that, in fact, is the purpose of squaring the toe.
Rolling a toe is not the same as squaring the toe--rolling is used to ease
breakover.

There are several good articles out there right now on 4-point shoeing--what
I would suggest is that everybody become familiar with what is being talked
about with the technique--there are several important aspects.
