Electrolytes

Hi group!

I have just signed up with Ridecamp at the suggestion of a friend. I had
no idea what I was signing up for. Isn't it weird what we will on the
suggestion of a friend without even checking it out? I figured if it had
"ride" in it somewhere, it had to be good!

I have a question for the group. I am looking for the recipe for homemade
electrolytes. The best I can remember is it consists of 1/2 table salt,
1/2 lite salt and ? calcium carbonate. I don't know how much to administer
at a time, when best to administer, and when absolutely NOT to administer.
I'm not even sure that for 30's and 50's, I'll even need to mess with it.
Perhaps there are some really good tasting commercial products you can
suggest. The last thing I want to do is jeopardize my horse's health.

Just a short comment about the TWH controversy. Living in North Carolina,
we see a lot of them. My heart goes out to these poor creatures who are so
inhumanely treated all in the name of edifying the human. One way to get
the message out to these people who insist on using stacks is to boycott
the shows that include anything but flat shod walkers. I have friends who
work for the State at our show facility and they tell me that on Monday
after a TWH show, the horses can hardly walk and many of them are beaten
just to get them out of their stalls and into the trailer. There must be a
special place in hell for people like that.

I have a good friend with whom I ride who has two flat shod walkers. I
have an Arab and we manage to keep the same pace and her two mares seem no
worse for the wear, and we're doing about 6 mph or better

Looking forward to an answer to my electrolyte dilemma,

Dottie S.
