As someone who bred Arabs in my backyard since 1973, I thought I'd give some
input on the breeding, pricing questions out there. I generally ask $2-3000
for a 3yr old gelding. When someone questions the price these are the kind of
things I bring up. I take them and show them the dam and talk about what she
has done. We look at the full and half siblings and see how they have turned
out. I mention the worming/shots/farrier program that has been followed
since birth, exactly what kind of handling and experiences this horse has had
all his life. The point is - the horse is an animal with a history and a
background where everything has been done to give him an honest start on
life. This costs money to do right and $3000 does not cover expenses but
helps to insure that I can continue doing the right things for my babies. I
don't bred to make big bucks but for the joy and delight of seeing the right
things come together. I am also a trail rider and put in plenty of time in
the saddle on those broodmares of mine. Does anyone know of any trail rides
in Yosemite? Used to love the ones the Merced group put on each summer.
