Camping with Horses

For anyone considering camping with their horses without a
pack horse, I can highly recommend the SaddleSoftware System
from Have Saddle Will Travel. I found them on the endurance
home page. They have a color photo on the Net of the packs.
They're extremely well made, and the quick buckles are
really handy. My husband and I got married last June and
went on a 6 day 100 mile honeymoon ride by ourselves in the
Canadian Rockies. We were able to pack enough food and
equipment for ourselves and our horses, even in early June
with still cold weather (got hit by a blizzard the second
night out). Balancing the load is critical, so we started
out each day walking to see which way the packs were gonna
shift, but once balanced, they were fine. Didn't even shift
when we met the Mama Bear on the trail and she chased us and
my Arab was ready to run for his life. I found the price
very reasonable compared to the usual plain, hanging packs
you see in the feed stores.

Cheers,
Trisha (and Cruise, who didn't know what that bear was and
wasn't gonna hang around to learn more!)
