Electrolytes are allowed and in fact their use is encouraged in
NATRC. Without the use of electrolytes, CTR riders would have horses in
trouble the same as the endurance riders....it is a necessary item to
have. You may administer in water, food, snacks, etc. The only way not
permitted has been oral/drenching. The definitions have never been
clarified and that is the issue. The upcoming rule change discussion is
to allow electolytes to be administered by the syringe the same as
wormers, etc. However, if the drenching definition is by tubing down
the throat, that would still be prohibited....This is assuming that it
will change, and many of us believe that will happen in the foreseeable
future.
