Endurance in other countries

When I recently responded to Niset < embrassa@worldaccess.nl> regarding an
Orthoflex saddle fitting problem, I asked about Endurance riding in Holland,
hoping that Ridecamp might share these experiences, thereby opening a new
topic of interest. Here are some of Niset's observations:

>Endurance is still in its infancy in Holland, compared to other countries.
We have approx. 15 rides varying from 15 till 80 miles. So far, we have 10
riders who completed a 100 miler and we're very proud of them. In total, we
have 300 members.
I think that we only have easy going rides to your point of view (Holland is
very flat), but we have 3 or 4 (heavy) rides in deep sand which seems to be
unfamilar abroad. I organise a ride (15 and 30 miles) in the area of WK
endurance'94, so deep sand, lots of dune and miles along the beach. We have
a promotion system, which enables the rider and the horse to adjust to
longer distances. You need to complete 3 rides in good shape in one class
(15 till 25 miles, 25 till 46 miles and 46 till 70 miles) before you can
start in the following class. I must say that it works pretty good so far. <
