my husband and I did that once. Volunteered to drag ride in lieu of paying
an entry fee. Believe me... we worked and suffered the full 6 hours on a hot
day. We carried full First Aid kits and emergency equipment too.
An unofficial / "secret" member of ride management accused us of trying to
get something for free and harped on about how we were supposed to pay some
fee for insurance with the AERC???? (Note: the official ride manager had
given her "ok" for us to do this.) This in addition to other false
accusations by the "secret/bankroll?" person. Needless to say, we did NOT
volunteer to help on this past years ride. We had to chuckle when someone
from ride management asked us one week before the ride to help. We paid our
full entry and had the chance to see how our horses could really do on the
course... a hell of a lot more fun.
Do other "official" ride managers have any problems with letting people drag
ride for free?
