if i use the following - for a 900 lb/409 kg horse

>From NRC's Nutrient Requirements for Horses:
where DE is digestible energy in Mcal and BW is body weight in kg.
Maintenance: (200-600kg BW) : DE = 1.4 + 0.03 BW
Light Work: DE = 1.25 (maintenace DE)
Moderate Work: DE = 1.50 (maintenace DE)
Intense Work: DE = 2.00 (maintenace DE)

maintenance = 13.7Mcal/day
light work = 17.1Mcal/day
mod work = 20.6Mcal/day
Int. work = 27.4Mcal/day = endurance horse competing

my horse is presently getting about 20.3Mcal/day and i am not
sure it is enough. she looks leaner than i would like her to be.

i know of at least one other member on ridecamp that is feeding
the 27Mcal/day.

we are using the following for calculation purposes

Rice Bran @2450cal/lb.
alfalfa small pellets @950cal/lb.
12% feed @ 1450 cal/lb.
coastal hay @ 750 cal/lb. typical 10-12 lbs/day
corn oil @2Mcal/cup
